Moulting is a normal process by which a dog or cat can eliminate waste matter from the body. This should happen once or perhaps twice a year, usually in spring and should last 1-2 weeks. This moult cleanses the system and helps to maintain health.
Many domestic pets moult for many weeks or even continuously, and many pet owners accept this as normal although inconvenient. Central heating or warm weather are often blamed for causing moulting but they are only aggravating factors. If your pet moults excessively this means that there is an excess of toxic waste matter in the system which can even be damaging to the major body organs. It is a fact that these toxins come from the food and it is possible to control excessive moulting by correct diet. Good quality food which is low in protein and fat and free of chemical additives can help the body to rid itself of waste matter.
It usually takes 3-4 weeks for the pet to stop moulting but of course you must still expect the normal adult moult. Tel 0800 0181 890 www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk
